Oriire Abduction: No Official Confirmation of Victims’ Release, Oyo State Police Clarify

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire Local Government Area of the state have regained their freedom.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command described the reports as misleading and unsubstantiated, urging members of the public to disregard them.

The police stated that, as of the time of issuing the statement, there had been no official confirmation of the victims’ release.

According to the command, intensive and coordinated rescue operations are still ongoing, with security operatives deploying all available resources to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.

The command assured residents of Oyo State and families of the victims that efforts were being intensified to ensure the victims are reunited safely with their loved ones, while those responsible for the abduction are arrested and prosecuted.

While acknowledging public concern over the incident, the police cautioned against the spread of unverified information and sensational reports capable of causing panic, heightening public anxiety and undermining ongoing security operations.

The command urged residents to rely only on information released through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government agencies.

It also called on members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies while refraining from sharing unverified reports on social media and other communication platforms.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to securing the safe release of the victims and pledged to provide timely updates as developments unfold.
