Oyo State Police Engage Traditional Leaders, Launch New Coordination Drive

Oyo State Police Command has intensified efforts to strengthen community policing through strategic engagement with traditional leaders and local security stakeholders in Ibadanland.

Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, met with Mogajis, Baales, and members of the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative in a bid to enhance intelligence gathering and improve public safety across the state.

The delegation was led by Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, President of all Mogajis in Ibadanland; Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade, Coordinator of the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative; and Baale F. D. Ige, Head of all Baales in Ibadanland.

During the meeting, the stakeholders commended the police command for its prompt response to distress calls and continued collaboration with community structures in maintaining peace and security.

They explained that the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative was established to complement the intelligence network of the Nigeria Police Force by providing timely and credible information to support policing operations.

The group also referenced remarks by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who had earlier emphasized the importance of local knowledge and sustained collaboration with security agencies in tackling crime effectively.

They assured the police leadership that members of the initiative have undergone necessary training and are prepared to support intelligence gathering and dissemination efforts.

In his response, CP Olugbenga praised the initiative and commended the Olubadan for his role in promoting security collaboration.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the Mogajis in fostering unity and strengthening ties between traditional institutions and law enforcement agencies.

The police commissioner reiterated that effective policing depends on trust, partnership, and timely intelligence sharing, assuring that the command remains committed to deepening such collaborations.

A major highlight of the engagement was the “Know Your DPO” segment, where contact details of Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders were shared with participants to improve communication, response time, and grassroots security coordination.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through proactive policing and enhanced community engagement across Oyo State.
