SSACO Accuses Makinde, Adekanmbi’s Camp of Political Intimidation Against APC
…As it alleges planned attacks on APC-supporting transport workers, demands urgent security intervention.
The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by suspected hoodlums to attack members of the Park Management System (PMS) and other supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
The organisation accused the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Governor Seyi Makinde of allegedly masterminding the planned attacks as part of efforts to intimidate opposition members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 8, and signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, SSACO alleged that the planned attacks were part of a wider campaign of intimidation against APC supporters across the state.
The organisation claimed that the development followed previous attacks which allegedly resulted in the death of an APC member in Ibadan in October, while several others reportedly sustained injuries in similar incidents over the past two months.
SSACO further alleged that members of the PMS were planning to attack APC-supporting members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), particularly a prominent member popularly known as Oyere and his followers.
According to the statement, the alleged attackers monitored APC supporters during Senator Alli’s manifesto unveiling at Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall last Tuesday, where names of NURTW members who recently joined the APC were reportedly compiled.
The campaign organisation also linked the alleged plot to the large turnout of NURTW members at a weekly meeting chaired by Oyere, which it said attracted hundreds of participants.
It further alleged that a meeting convened by a prominent member of Governor Makinde’s inner circle around 10pm on Friday resolved to launch coordinated attacks on NURTW members supporting the APC and disrupt their weekly meetings to weaken the party’s support base.
Beyond the alleged threats against party supporters, SSACO accused agents of the state government of vandalising Senator Alli’s campaign billboards and intimidating billboard owners who offer advertising spaces to the APC governorship candidate.
The organisation described the alleged destruction of campaign materials and pressure on billboard proprietors as an attack on democratic principles and an attempt to frustrate the opposition’s political activities.
While expressing confidence that the alleged intimidation would not deter voters from supporting the APC in 2027, SSACO maintained that Oyo State needed a change in leadership after what it described as seven years of policy inconsistencies and poor public service delivery.
The campaign organisation called on the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to urgently investigate the alleged plot and take necessary steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
It also urged residents to hold Governor Makinde and Hon. Adekanmbi accountable for any political violence arising from the alleged activities of their supporters.
