2027: AIG Ewah Warns Oyo, Osun Police Ofiicers Against Partisan Politics

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey Ewah, has warned police officers and men in Oyo and Osun states against partisan politics and any conduct capable of compromising the neutrality of the Nigeria Police Force.
Ewah gave the warning on Friday as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum, directing personnel under his command to remain apolitical, professional and impartial in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
The statement was signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji.
The AIG said the directive was in line with the position of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at the recently concluded Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, Imo State.
According to him, the police must remain neutral and provide a level playing field for all political actors by ensuring strict compliance with the laws governing political activities in the country.
He said police officers must avoid conduct that could create the impression of favouring any political party or candidate, stressing that professionalism and impartiality must guide their actions throughout the political season.
Ewah also appealed to politicians and political actors in Oyo and Osun states to conduct their campaigns peacefully and responsibly, urging them to shun violence, rancour and other activities capable of threatening public peace.
He warned that individuals who violate the law or disturb public order would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The AIG further reaffirmed the commitment of Zone 11 to providing a secure environment for politicians to conduct campaigns and other legitimate political activities while respecting the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He therefore charged officers and men in the zone to maintain discipline, professionalism and impartiality at all times and refrain from actions capable of undermining the neutrality and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.
