The political structure of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, led by his former Personal Assistant, Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, has moved from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State.

Sangogade, who is a political organiser in Ibadan, led thousands of his supporters to the APM during the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The event, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU),” served as a platform for the formal reception of Sangogade and his supporters into the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the gathering, Oyo State Governor and APM presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde, responded to criticism by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, over the use of diesel-powered generators to illuminate some streetlights in the state.

Makinde said those criticising his administration over the generators should also recall a promise allegedly made by their political principal to fix electricity across Nigeria within his first four years in office.

He said, “Tell them their father and boss was the one who said if he doesn’t fix the light all over Nigeria within his first four years, no one should vote for him again.”

The governor argued that if the electricity challenge in the country had been resolved as promised, governments would not have needed to rely on diesel-powered generators to operate streetlights.

Makinde also addressed comments concerning his professional background, stating that his engineering qualification had been recognised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, where he said he is a Fellow.

He also referred to APM’s Oyo State governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekambi, describing him as a graduate and professional who is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

The governor drew an analogy with the legal profession, saying that while lawyers who attain the highest professional recognition are addressed as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), the absence of a designation such as “Junior Advocate of Nigeria” should not be used to diminish the professional standing of others.

Makinde subsequently urged the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to focus on the governorship contest with APM’s candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekambi, rather than attacking him.

Speaking with journalists at the event, APM candidate for Ibadan North-West/ South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Akin Fagbemi, expressed optimism that the party’s political influence would extend beyond Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fagbemi said the massive turnout and atmosphere at the concert demonstrated what he described as growing acceptance of the APM, adding that Oyo State had once again demonstrated its capacity for political mobilisation.

According to him, Makinde, as the party’s presidential candidate, would take the APM’s agenda to the national level in 2027, while the political momentum being generated in Oyo State would spread across other parts of the country.

He said the party’s proposed “Reset Nigeria” agenda was designed to address challenges confronting Nigerians, particularly unemployment, economic hardship and declining economic opportunities.

Fagbemi also expressed confidence in the ability of APM candidates, including Makinde and Adekambi, to deliver what he described as meaningful development if elected.

Sangogade, an ally of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, led his supporters from the APC into the APM during the event.

The mega concert also featured performances by Fuji artistes, including Alhaji Taiye Currency and Babatunmise, among others.

The event was attended by APM leaders, candidates and supporters, including the party’s senatorial candidates, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller for Oyo North and Hon. Ajadi Oguntoyinbo for Oyo Central.
