Makinde Reassures Families as Search for Abducted Oyo Pupils, Teachers Continues

…Says victims remain within Old Oyo National Park axis, urges patience and vigilance

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reassured families of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area that efforts to secure their safe release remain ongoing, 27 days after the incident.

In a message to residents of the state, through his X handle, Governor Makinde acknowledged the pain and uncertainty being experienced by the families and communities affected by the abduction, describing the situation as a difficult and emotional one for all concerned.

The Governor stated that although the government has repeatedly assured residents that the victims would be rescued safely, it understands the frustration of families who are yet to be reunited with their loved ones.

He maintained that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is pursuing every credible lead and taking all lawful measures necessary to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.

Governor Makinde disclosed that security reports indicate that the victims are still within the wider axis of the Old Oyo National Park, a vast area spanning parts of ten local government areas and covering about 2,500 square kilometres.

According to him, the size and terrain of the area present significant operational challenges, making patience, coordination and persistence critical to ongoing rescue efforts.

The Governor stressed that the abduction is not only a concern for Oriire Local Government Area but for the entire state, urging residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information.

He encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the state’s toll-free emergency line, 615, assuring that all reports would be treated promptly.

Governor Makinde also cautioned against the spread of unverified information regarding the abduction, noting that inaccurate reports could undermine rescue operations.

He appealed to residents to continue praying for the safe return of the victims and to support ongoing efforts aimed at securing their freedom and reuniting them with their families.
