Oyo State Police Refute Viral Report on Oriire Kidnap Investigation, Warn Against Misinformation

Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a widely circulated publication containing alleged operational details about the recent abduction incident in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command said the publication contained purported information on suspects’ identities, communication interceptions and financial transactions linked to the ongoing investigation, stressing that such details did not originate from the police or any authorized security agency.

The Command described the report as speculative and lacking official backing, noting that the investigation into the kidnapping remains active, sensitive and intelligence-driven.

According to the police, operational details, investigative leads, identities of suspects and financial intelligence relating to the case are being handled with strict confidentiality to prevent the compromise of ongoing security efforts and facilitate the successful arrest of all those involved.

The Command therefore cautioned members of the public, bloggers and online publishers against the dissemination of unverified or security-sensitive information capable of misleading the public, creating panic or undermining ongoing investigations.

The police further warned that anyone found deliberately spreading false information, interfering with investigations or obstructing security operations would face the full weight of the law.

It urged residents to rely solely on official communication channels for verified information, while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of the crime are apprehended and brought to justice.
