Coup-de-tat: ECOWAS bemoans political situation in Guinea
…calls for respect for physical integrity of ousted President
The Economic Community of West African States has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the president of republic of Guinea, Prof. Alpha Conde with all the personalities arrested and immediate return to constitutional order on pain of sanctions.
The communique was released by the Economic Community of West African States, President in Office, who is also the President of the republic of Ghana, Akufo Addo, which was in reaction to political situation in the republic of Guinea earlier today.
The international organization condemned the recent political development in the country.
“ECOWAS notes with great concern the recent political developments
which occurred in Conakry, Republic of Guinea. She condemns with the greatest firmness
this coup attempt on Sunday, September 5, 2021.
It further reaffirm its disapproval of any unconditional political change and asked for the defense and security forces of the republic of Guinea to remain in a posture.
“ECOWAS reaffirms its disapproval of any unconstitutional political change.
“ECOWAS demands respect for the physical integrity of the President of the Republic, the
Professor Alpha Condé and his immediate and unconditional release as well as that of
all the personalities arrested.
ECOWAS further expressed its solidarity with the Guinean people and Government.
