Oyo Police Bust Truck Hijacking Syndicate, Arrest Four Suspects

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery and truck-hijacking syndicate and recovered a stolen Sino Howo truck.
The suspects are alleged to specialise in hijacking, diverting and stealing trucks from drivers operating within Oyo State and neighbouring states before moving the vehicles to criminal receivers in Kwara State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the arrests followed actionable intelligence and information from members of the public that the syndicate would carry out an operation on August 24, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, subsequently directed operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, to conduct an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The operatives intercepted a white Sino Howo truck and arrested two suspects identified as Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac, a motor boy attached to the truck driver, and his accomplice, Ajuwon Ismail.
The Police said the recovered truck had its back body removed and was being driven towards the Ogbomoso-Ilorin axis for onward delivery to a criminal receiver.
During interrogation, Ojedokun allegedly confessed to masterminding the hijacking of the truck from his master along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
His confession, according to the Police, provided leads that led to the arrest of two other alleged members of the syndicate, identified as Adekunle Sunday and Rasheed Music.
The Command said investigation revealed that Adekunle routinely served as the syndicate’s designated driver whenever a truck was hijacked, while Rasheed specialised in removing vehicle trackers and other electronic devices used to monitor and locate the trucks.
The Police further said the syndicate hijacked the truck at about 11 p.m. on August 24 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and diverted it towards the Ogbomoso-Ilorin axis before the intervention of the VCRU operatives disrupted the operation.
Efforts are ongoing to recover the detached back body of the truck and apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
The Commissioner of Police appreciated members of the public for providing timely and credible information that contributed to the success of the operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the sustained dismantling of criminal networks across the state.
The Commissioner also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to enhance the safety and security of communities across Oyo State.
