…As he Govt says 578 claimants have received payments, while others await screening and documentation.
The Oyo State Government says it has disbursed over five-point-three-five billion naira as compensation to 578 property owners affected by the first segment of the Ibadan Circular Road project.
The Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on New Towns and Cities, Mrs. Mofoluke Adebiyi, disclosed this while providing an update on the ongoing compensation exercise.
She explained that the 32.2-kilometre first segment of the Circular Road stretches from the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University axis along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway through Ona Ara Local Government Area to Badeku Junction on the Ibadan-Ife Expressway in Egbeda Local Government Area.
According to her, the affected property owners fall into two categories: those within the Right of Way, covering 75 metres on either side of the road median, and those classified under the Omission Category.
Mrs. Adebiyi said the government approved over three-point-eight-six billion naira for 674 structures identified under the Right of Way category, out of which 378 claimants have completed the necessary documentation and received their compensation.
She added that another one-point-eight-one billion naira was approved for 251 structures identified during a fresh enumeration exercise under the Omission Category, with 200 property owners already cleared and paid a total of one-point-four-nine billion naira.
The governor’s aide noted that although 578 property owners have received payments across both categories, the exercise remains ongoing, with several claimants yet to appear before the screening committee or complete the required documentation.
She disclosed that 263 claimants under the Right of Way category and 35 under the Omission Category are yet to appear before the screening committee.
Mrs. Adebiyi also revealed that 16 payment transactions were unsuccessful due to discrepancies between the names submitted during screening and the bank account details provided, assuring that efforts were being made to resolve the issues.
She maintained that the compensation exercise was being conducted transparently and without favouritism, assuring all eligible property owners that the government would continue to process their payments in line with established procedures.
The Oyo State Government reiterated its commitment to executing the Circular Road project while ensuring that residents whose properties are affected receive appropriate compensation.
