2027: Ewenla Challenges PDP Members Backing APC Candidates

… Says Party Loyalty, Political Consistency Must Be Paramount

The PDP Southwest Ex-officio, Dr. Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has questioned the loyalty of some individuals who claim to be members and leaders of the party but are allegedly campaigning for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ewenla, in a statement, said it was contradictory for individuals to identify as PDP members or candidates while openly promoting candidates of another political party.

He questioned the commitment of such individuals to the PDP, stressing the need for loyalty, political principle and consistency among party members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, members of what he described as the “original PDP” recognise former President Goodluck Jonathan as their presidential candidate and Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as the Interim National Chairman.

Ewenla said genuine members of the group would therefore not openly campaign for the APC or support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He also raised concerns over reports alleging that a governorship candidate and some other candidates had been meeting APC candidates privately and allegedly promising to deliver PDP votes and candidates across various constituencies to the APC.

Ewenla, however, said those allegations would require clear explanations if confirmed.

He said it was inconsistent for anyone to publicly present himself as a PDP candidate while allegedly working to advance the interests of another political party.

The PDP chieftain urged individuals to be clear about their political allegiance, saying those who believe in their candidacies should campaign for themselves, while those who believe in the party should defend its interests.

He said political developments would eventually reveal those genuinely committed to the PDP and those allegedly using the party’s platform for personal political advantage.

Ewenla maintained that party loyalty and political consistency would become increasingly important as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
