A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, Prince Amb. (Dr.) Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has described the outcome of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election as a “powerful message” that Nigerians should replicate in the 2027 general elections.

Ewenla, in a statement, said the votes recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the election showed that a significant number of voters remained committed to the ruling party despite what he described as economic hardship, insecurity, rising taxation and declining purchasing power across the country.

The PDP chieftain questioned continued support for the APC amid the challenges confronting Nigerians, including the rising cost of food and essential commodities, insecurity and increasing financial pressure on households.

He urged Nigerians who desire a change in 2027 to use their Permanent Voter Cards to demand accountability, improved security, economic opportunities and good governance through the ballot box.

Ewenla also expressed concern over what he described as political contradictions within the PDP, alleging that some members of the party openly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC while seeking elective positions under the PDP. He called on politicians to uphold principles, loyalty and the interests of the people above personal ambition.

He urged the PDP to learn from its past mistakes, rebuild its structures, restore public confidence and unite its members ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that the party must present credible leaders capable of offering Nigerians a viable alternative.

Ewenla said the 2027 general elections should be seen not merely as a contest for political power but as an opportunity for Nigerians to determine the future direction of the country, declaring that “the PDP will rise again” and that Nigeria deserves good governance.
