3SC Host Inter Lagos as NPFL 2026/2027 Season Kicks off August 28

…As Elegbeleye pledges better players’ welfare, improved infrastructure for new season

The 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season will kick off on August 28 with former champions Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) hosting newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The opening fixture was confirmed following the NPFL Annual General Meeting and fixtures draw held ahead of the new season, with the encounter expected to set the tone for another competitive league campaign.

Other Matchday One fixtures will see Rangers International take on Katsina United, Ikorodu City host returning side Ranchers Bees, Abia Warriors face Kun Khalifat, while Barau FC square up against Nasarawa United in a northern derby.

Bendel Insurance will welcome Warri Wolves, Rivers United host Plateau United, and Kwara United entertain Kano Pillars in Ilorin.

Former champions Enyimba will begin their campaign away to Niger Tornadoes, while Doma United will also be in action as the remaining opening-week fixtures are scheduled for August 30.

Speaking at the AGM, NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, assured stakeholders that the league board is committed to delivering a more competitive and improved season.

He said priority would be given to players’ welfare and stadium infrastructure to enhance the league’s appeal to sponsors and football fans.

With several exciting fixtures lined up, the 2026/2027 NPFL season is expected to begin on a thrilling note, as 3SC and Inter Lagos headline the opening day action in Ibadan on August 28, while the remaining Matchday One fixtures will be played on August 30.
