Oriire Abduction: Makinde Reaffirms Commitment to Security, Safe Return of Abducted Victims

…Says curfew supports security operations as aircraft delivery nears completion.

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed that the safety and wellbeing of residents remain the top priority of his administration amid ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

In a message posted on his official social media platforms, the governor said security agencies have sustained coordinated operations to secure the release of the victims, with the state government providing the necessary support.

Governor Makinde explained that the temporary 16-hour curfew imposed on ten local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park was introduced to strengthen security operations and improve rescue efforts.

He urged residents of the affected areas to cooperate with security agencies and assured residents that preparations are underway to ensure the safe reopening of schools, stressing that while education must continue, adequate measures are being put in place to safeguard pupils, teachers and host communities.

On security infrastructure, Makinde disclosed that the delivery of the state’s surveillance aircraft is now in its final stages.

He said additional technical, regulatory and safety procedures have slightly delayed the aircraft’s delivery beyond the earlier June target but noted that the delay will ensure it is ready for immediate deployment once commissioned.

According to the governor, the surveillance aircraft will enhance aerial monitoring, emergency response and other security operations across the state.

Governor Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, education, infrastructure and other critical sectors, while appreciating residents for their continued cooperation, resilience and support.
