Adelabu Denies Defection Rumour, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

The camp of leading All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports alleging that he is planning to defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), describing the claim as false, baseless, and politically motivated.

In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Femi Awogboro, Adelabu’s camp said the rumour, which has been circulating on social media, was the handiwork of individuals seeking attention through misinformation and political propaganda.

The statement stressed that Chief Adelabu remains a committed member of the APC and has neither contemplated nor initiated discussions regarding a move to any other political party.

According to the statement, speculation about a possible defection is unfounded, especially as the APC governorship primary process is yet to be concluded and no official result has been announced.

The media aide maintained that Adelabu’s political ambition is not driven by desperation, noting that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria has built a distinguished career in both public and private sectors through competence, integrity, and dedication to service.

The statement described as “insulting and ridiculous” suggestions that Adelabu would seek political relevance through what it termed an “imaginary defection,” adding that such claims reflect a poor understanding of the political landscape in Oyo State.

It further accused the promoters of the rumour of attempting to gain political relevance by associating themselves with Adelabu’s growing popularity and political influence.

Awogboro urged political actors to focus on presenting their credentials and engaging in issue-based campaigns rather than spreading falsehoods and distractions.

The statement also warned those behind the alleged misinformation to retract the publication and tender an unreserved apology, stating that Adelabu’s legal team is reviewing the matter and may pursue legal action against those responsible if the claims continue to be circulated.

Reaffirming Adelabu’s commitment to the APC, the statement said the governorship aspirant remains focused on his vision for Oyo State and will not be distracted by what it described as “cheap publicity stunts and political opportunism.”

The media aide called on members of the public to disregard the rumour, insisting that there is no truth whatsoever in the reports linking Chief Adelabu with any defection agenda.
