PDP Chieftain Raises Concern Over Insecurity Following Death of Retired General in Captivity

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Southwest Ex-Officio, Ambassador Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has expressed concern over the country’s security situation following reports that the body of retired General Rabe Abubakar was released by his abductors to his family for burial in Katsina State.

In a statement released and signed by Ewenla described the development as disturbing, noting that it raises questions about the capacity of security agencies to tackle kidnapping and terrorism across the country.

He said the reported release of the late General’s body by his abductors, while members of his family are allegedly still being held captive, highlights the challenges confronting efforts to secure the release of victims of kidnapping.

The PDP chieftain particularly expressed concern over reports that the wife of the late retired General remains in captivity, arguing that the situation underscores the vulnerability of citizens to criminal activities.

According to him, the incident has renewed public debate about the effectiveness of measures being implemented to address insecurity and protect lives and property.

Ewenla stated that many Nigerians are dissatisfied with the current security situation and called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts aimed at combating terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping across the country.

He stressed that government has a responsibility to ensure the safety of all citizens irrespective of status, ethnicity, or religion.

The PDP stalwart also urged Nigerians to evaluate the performance of elected leaders as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the need for accountability and good governance.

He maintained that more must be done to guarantee security, justice, and the protection of lives and property nationwide.
