APM Reiterates Commitment to State Policing in Lagos

…Assures Lagosians of professional, non-political policing under its proposed 2027 administration

…As Party says Amotekun and community policing remain key components of its security agenda

The Lagos State chapter of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, has commended the National Assembly for considering the State Police Bill, describing the move as a bold step towards tackling the country’s growing security challenges.

In a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem, the party said the legislative initiative validates the position of Oyo State Governor and APM Presidential Candidate, Seyi Makinde, that the establishment of State Police can only be achieved through constitutional amendment by the National Assembly.

The party noted that the development also clarifies the constitutional process for creating State Police and urged lawmakers to subject the bill to thorough scrutiny and broad stakeholder engagement before its passage.

APM reiterated its commitment to State Policing, Community Policing and the establishment of Amotekun in Lagos State, noting that the proposals form part of the “Atunto Eko 1.0” agenda of its Lagos State Governorship Candidate, Laja Adeoye.

The party further called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to clearly define the operational boundaries, command structure and responsibilities of the Federal and State Police to prevent jurisdictional conflicts and ensure effective coordination.

APM also urged State Houses of Assembly to enact laws that would guarantee adequate funding, accountability, professionalism and proper command structures for State Police formations.

The party assured Lagos residents that if elected into office in 2027, it would establish a well-funded and professionally managed State Police structure dedicated to the protection of lives and property, stressing that such a security outfit would not be used for political intimidation or oppression.

According to the party, a properly structured and managed State Police system will significantly enhance security and help address insecurity across the country.
