The family of former Minister of Power and prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by suspected kidnappers in Ibadan.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Chief Adelabu’s Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. when armed gunmen reportedly intercepted Mrs. John-Paul while she was taking her children to school.
The attackers allegedly forcefully abducted Mrs. John-Paul, 43, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.
Before her voluntary retirement in 2025, she worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and later at First Bank Pension Custodian.
Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making arrangements to reunite with her husband, Mr. John Paul, who resides in the United States.
The family disclosed that relevant security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified following the incident and have since commenced investigations.
“Security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime,” the statement read.
The family expressed deep concern over the development but said they remain hopeful that security agencies will secure the safe release of the victims.
They also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and support ongoing security efforts.
The statement further urged anyone with credible information that could aid the investigation to report such details through appropriate security channels.
The family assured the public of its continued cooperation with security authorities and pledged to provide updates as developments unfold.
