OYOSUBEB Confirms Teacher’s Death, Pupils’ Abduction in Oriire LG Attack

…As Security agencies comb affected communities as schools close in four LGAs

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has confirmed the killing of a teacher and the abduction of several pupils following an attack on two schools in Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The affected schools are LA School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele.

In a statement issued on Friday, by the Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Nureni Adeniran, who described the incident as “a dark and painful moment” for the education sector in the state.

He said the exact number of abducted pupils had yet to be confirmed as security agencies were still combing the affected communities and gathering details surrounding the incident.

According to the statement, security operatives under the coordination of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police have deployed a tactical response team to the area to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and restore peace to the community.

“The safety of our children remains our utmost priority,” Adeniran stated, assuring parents and stakeholders that the government would not relent until all the children were safely returned.

As part of precautionary measures, OYOSUBEB directed all primary schools in neighbouring local government areas, including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire, and Olorunsogo, to vacate immediately until further notice.

The Board explained that the temporary closure was aimed at preventing further attacks and allowing security agencies to stabilise the area.

OYOSUBEB also appealed to parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

The Board sympathised with the family of the slain teacher, describing his death as a tragic loss to the education community.

“His service, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the statement added.
