Oyo State Police Hunt Attackers After Deadly School Invasion in Oriire LG
…As Police vow rescue of abducted pupils and staff
The Oyo State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt and rescue operation following the abduction of pupils, students and school staff by armed attackers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026, when the gunmen, reportedly riding motorcycles, simultaneously attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School, Esiele.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.According to preliminary investigations by the police, several pupils, students and staff members were abducted during the coordinated attacks, including the Vice Principal, Mrs. Alamu Folawe.
The police, however, stated that no pupil or student had been confirmed dead as of the time the report was filed.
Tragically, an Assistant Headmaster identified as Mr. Adesiyan was killed during the attack.
An okada rider was also reportedly shot dead after resisting attempts by the attackers to seize his motorcycle.
Authorities disclosed that Community Grammar School and L.A Primary School operate within the same premises in Esiele.
The attackers were also said to have carted away a Toyota Corolla belonging to the abducted Vice Principal before setting the vehicle ablaze along a forest route.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reportedly led security operatives and other service commanders to the affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment and operational coordination.
The police said tactical teams, intelligence units and operational assets have since been deployed to the area to restore order, rescue the abducted victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The Command urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue operations.
