NBC zonal director tasks broadcasters on credible content

As the broadcast media continue to evolve with technological innovations, Nigerian broadcasters have been implored to always maintain credibility and integrity with their contents to truly win the people’s trust

The Zonal Director, National Broadcasting Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office, Mr Raphael Akpan Ibadan, who gave the charge in a special parting and “thank you” ceremony organized for ace independent broadcaster Yemi Sonde by Splash Fm radio in Ibadan also charged broadcasters in the country to put the profession on a firm ground, noting that non professionals should not be allowed to dictate the pace for professional broadcasters.

The NBC boss also affirmed that though the the Nigerian media industry was not on same level with media in the developed world, but it has continued to grow dynamically.

While explaining the purpose of the event, the General Manager Operations, Splash FM, Mr Tunde Olawuwo urged upcoming broadcasters and journalists to be inspired by my successful senior colleagues in the industry like Yemi Sonde and emulate their dexterity.

Also in her remarks, the zonal director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Ibadan zonal office, Mrs Bolatito Joseph said that journalists should do a fact check before giving out information and advocated for training and retraining, adding that “if you don’t train them, you don’t blame them”

In an acceptance speech, the celebrant, Yemi Sonde, while expressing gratitude to Splash FM radio and its Chairman, Chief Bayo Akande, for the love and cordial relationship, especially for his ‘Mofe Be’ and ‘YS Live’ radio shows added that even though he was beginning another phase of his career as a radio station owner, he would rather not compete with anyone but collaborate with others

Highlights of the event was delivery of various goodwill messages from well wishers and the presentation of award of Excellence to Yemi Sonde by the Freelance And Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) as well as an award to Splash FM radio by Yemi Sonde as a show of appreciation.
