INEC Chairman speaks on time for release of Presidential Election result
The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has said that the results of the 2023 presidential election will be released as soon as possible.
Speaking at his last pre-election briefing he also declared that the Senatorial Election in Enugu East constituency would hold with the Governorship election scheduled for March 11, 2023.
He also declared that the naira scarcity in the country would not have much impact on the conduct of the election saying that much of the transactions undertaken by the commission is online.
He was flanked by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba who declared that financial mobilization for those deployed for the election had been done.
Asked on when the result of the presidential election would be released, the INEC chairman said that the result would be released as soon as the process is concluded saying that it would not be delayed for a day, hour or whatever time given the anxiety of the majority of Nigerians.
He also declared that campaign for the Enugu East Senatorial Constituency can recommence given that the election would now hold on March 11 along with the governorship and state assembly election. The postponement of the election followed the killing of the Labour Party Senate candidate, Oyibo Chukwu.
The INEC chairman also affirmed that the commission had no impediment from the naira scarcity crisis in the conduct of its logistics saying that most of the transactions entered into by the commission were electronic.
