‘Crisis Rocks APC Presidential Campaign Council List’

The composition of the All Progressives Congress‘ presidential national campaign council list has led to a crisis in the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

National daily News learnt that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party is not pleased with the role allotted to them in the council.

According to a source that spoke with Daily Sun, major directorate positions in the council are led by loyalists of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu.

This is coming after Tinubu submitted the presidential campaign council list to the leadership of the party this week.

The source disclosed that the meeting of the three-man committee of the party with the DG of the council, comprising the National Legal Adviser, the National Organising Secretary and Deputy Women Leader ended in deadlock after realising that the council was populated by Tinubu’s camp.

It was stated that the names of the proposed national officers were given “just inconsequential membership positions” in the council.

The source further stated that the NWC of the party had requested the specific directorate.

According to the source, the camp of the presidential candidate despite the request insisted on taking charge of the directorate and presenting mere positions to the party’s leadership.

The source noted that the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu had requested the inclusion of the following persons into the council.

The source said, “They are the two Deputy National Chairmen (North and South), National Secretary, National Organizing Secretary, Deputy National Organising Secretary, National Publicity Secretary, National Woman Leader, National Youth Leader, and the National Leader on People with Disabilities.”

The source said the NWC were, however, surprised when they went for the meeting and discovered the list was dominated by Tinubu’s camp.

Meanwhile, the three-man harmonisation committee of the party is expected to meet the DG of the council again on Monday.
[9/10, 6:18 AM] Ogundele Olanrewaju: Wife of the Oyo state governor, Engineer Tamunominini Makinde has acknowledged the efforts of the United Nations Population fund, UNFPA towards eliminating Gender-Based Violence in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

Engineer Makinde stated this in a goodwill message at the official launching of the First National Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Harmful Practices and Obstetrics Fistula Landscape Analysis Report in Nigeria by (UNFPA) in partnership with Global Affairs, Canada which took place at the State House Banquet Hall, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

The governor’s wife who highlighted the roles she had played in collaboration with other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Oyo State in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and other harmful practices against women said these had proved successful.

“some of such successes included the commissioning of the Oyo State-owned Sexual and Assault Referral Center in Ibadan in May 2021; the public presentation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law in February 2022 and the introduction of a toll-free hotline which indigenes and residents of Oyo State can call to report Rape and Gender-Based Violence cases”

She equally expressed the hope that the landscape analysis report which had been launched will further help to eliminate Gender-Based Violence and other harmful practices against girlchild and women in Nigeria.

“In my view, a collaboration by all stakeholders in the fight to end Gender-Based Violence is key as statistics have shown that girls and women are hugely at the receiving end of the ugly acts”
