Oyo APC Support Group Petitions Tinubu, Party Leadership Over Ibadan Federal Constituency Primary Election
…Alleges over-voting, result alteration and non-conduct of elections in some wards; seeks independent investigation
A concerned support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan South East/Ibadan North East Federal Constituency has called on the national leadership of the party to investigate alleged irregularities that reportedly occurred during the House of Representatives primary election held on May 16, 2026.
In an open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and other key party officials, the group appealed for justice, transparency, and adherence to due process in the aftermath of the primary election.
The group, speaking on behalf of House of Representatives aspirant Hon. Lasisi Opeyemi Ibrahim, popularly known as Ojasope, alleged that the primary election was marred by over-voting, non-conduct of elections in some wards, alteration of results, and other irregularities that require an independent investigation.
According to the letter, results available to the group indicate that Hon. Lasisi Opeyemi Ibrahim secured the highest number of lawful votes cast across the constituency, polling a total of 974 votes.

The support group expressed concern over what it described as conflicting claims and declarations emerging after the exercise despite the results it presented.
It maintained that its position was not directed against any aspirant but aimed at preserving the integrity of the party and protecting the democratic wishes of delegates.
The group also highlighted Ojasope’s long-standing involvement in progressive politics dating back to the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and APC eras.
It noted that he had served as a ward secretary for eight years and had remained active in grassroots mobilisation, youth empowerment, humanitarian activities, and community development.
According to the letter, any perception of manipulation or injustice could negatively affect party unity, grassroots mobilisation, and members’ confidence ahead of future elections.
The group stressed that the APC has consistently promoted internal democracy, fairness, and due process.Citing provisions of the APC Constitution and the Electoral Act, the group argued that consensus candidacy can only emerge through the voluntary agreement of aspirants, while transparent primary elections remain the legitimate means of candidate selection where consensus is not achieved.
The support group therefore urged the party leadership to investigate allegations of over-voting, result manipulation, non-conduct of elections in certain wards, and other reported irregularities associated with the primary election.
It called on the APC leadership to ensure that justice, transparency, and fairness prevail in the interest of party unity, democratic credibility, and future electoral success.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to peace, party unity, and the progressive ideals of the APC while expressing confidence that the party leadership would address the concerns raised in the appeal.
