PDP Southwest Backs Makinde, Dismisses Impeachment Rumour, Condemns Fayose’s Comments

…Blasts Fayose’s comments, warns against political destabilisation

The Southwest Zonal Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its support for Seyi Makinde, while dismissing reports of an alleged impeachment plot against the Oyo State governor as baseless and politically motivated.

This was stated by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, at the press conference held at the Southwest party zonal Secretariat, Ibadan.

The party expressed solidarity with Nigerians amid what it described as worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and uncertainty across the country.

The PDP said it remains committed to providing a credible alternative focused on people-oriented governance, stability, and national development.

The zonal leadership praised Governor Makinde for what it called his “stability, focus, and unwavering commitment” to delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State. It also commended his efforts in strengthening multi-party democracy in Nigeria.

Addressing reports of a possible impeachment, the PDP Southwest described the claims as “baseless” and “contrived,” urging Nigerians to disregard them. According to the statement, the alleged plot is a calculated attempt to create unnecessary political tension.

The party also took a swipe at former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, condemning his recent remarks as “reckless, divisive, and self-serving.”

It warned that such comments could incite tension, particularly through what it described as the politicisation of traditional institutions.

“The conduct is unacceptable and is hereby unequivocally condemned,” the statement added.

The PDP Southwest further called on Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant, and united, while cautioning against attempts by political actors to destabilise the country for personal gain.

Reaffirming its internal loyalty, the zonal body pledged unwavering support for the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), stressing its commitment to party unity, discipline, and cohesion.

The party concluded by appreciating Nigerians for their resilience and continued support, assuring them of its dedication to responsible leadership and a better future.
