Aboderin Declares Interest in 2027 Reps Race, Promises Reforms and Grassroots Development for Ibadan Southeast/Northeast

A former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the House of Representatives in 2019 and ex-Special Assistant to former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, Hon. Deji Aboderin, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Ibadan Southeast/Northeast Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a consultation visit to Ward 9 in his constituency, Aboderin said his renewed ambition is driven by lessons learned from past elections and a commitment to deliver effective representation.

According to him, he has been actively involved in the political process since 2012, consistently contesting for the same seat.

He noted that his visit to Ward 9 was part of ongoing consultations with constituents ahead of the 2027 polls.

Aboderin recalled his 2019 outing under the APC, where he claimed victory before the outcome was allegedly manipulated.

He attributed his loss partly to internal party divisions and personal missteps, including prematurely relaxing before the final announcement of results.

“I have learned from my past mistakes. This time, things will be done differently,” he said, expressing confidence that the APC would give him the ticket and that he would secure victory in 2027.

The politician emphasized his long-standing engagement with grassroots development, citing interventions such as borehole projects, support for education, and poverty alleviation initiatives across the constituency.

He lamented what he described as inadequate representation of Ibadan Southeast/Northeast at the National Assembly, noting that even within Abuja political circles, concerns have been raised about the constituency lacking effective advocacy.

Aboderin also used the opportunity to express support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the government’s policies as reform-driven and focused on long-term national development.

He acknowledged the economic challenges currently facing Nigerians but attributed them partly to global factors, including international conflicts, noting that reforms often come with temporary hardship.

“The Renewed Hope agenda is about building for the future. With patience, Nigerians will begin to see the dividends,” he said.

Highlighting key policy priorities, Aboderin said he would champion social welfare legislation if elected.

His proposals include financial support for newborns, improved access to education through government-funded programs, school feeding initiatives, and enhanced infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electricity.

He commended the Federal Government’s efforts to address challenges in the power sector, particularly the reported N3.3 trillion plan to settle debts owed to generation companies, which he said would help stabilize electricity supply.

On party politics, Aboderin revealed that although he contested under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2023, he remained supportive of APC candidates, including President Tinubu and other party leaders in Oyo State.

He pledged continued loyalty to the APC, regardless of the party’s decision on its 2027 ticket, while urging voters in Oyo State to support APC candidates across all levels to ensure alignment with the federal government.

Aboderin expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, stating that with sustained reforms and the right leadership, the country would experience improved governance and development from 2027 onward.
