Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye, has announced his decision not to contest for the Oluyole Federal Constituency seat in the forthcoming elections, describing the move as a “strategic sacrifice” for the benefit of his people.
This was in a statement released on today, Aleshinloye expressed deep appreciation to the people of Oluyole Local Government for their continued support, trust, and prayers throughout his political journey.
According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations with political leaders, stakeholders, and relevant authorities, as well as careful personal reflection.
He noted that his current role as a Federal Character Commissioner presents a rare and historic opportunity for Oluyole, as it marks the first time an indigene of the area is occupying such a position at the national level.
Aleshinloye warned that relinquishing the position at this time could jeopardize the constituency’s chances of retaining such representation in the near future.
“If I choose to leave this position now, there is no guarantee that such an opportunity will return to our constituency anytime soon,” he said.
He explained that prioritizing the retention of the federal appointment while allowing another candidate to contest the legislative seat would increase Oluyole’s chances of securing broader representation at the federal level.
The commissioner emphasized that the move was driven by the collective interest of the people rather than personal ambition.
“Leadership is not about self. It is about service and sacrifice for the greater good,” Aleshinloye stated.
