Makinde’s Wife Commissions Egbeda Marriage Registry,Flags Off Health Insurance Scheme

…As Council boss Sikiru Sanda launches free one-year health insurance scheme for elderly residents.

The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamunumini Makinde, on Wednesday commissioned a newly renovated marriage registry and flagged off a one-year prepaid health insurance scheme for elderly residents in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The facility, now renamed Tamunumini Makinde Multi-Purpose Hall, was renovated by the Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, to serve as a modern venue for marriage solemnization and other community activities.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at the Egbeda Local Government Secretariat, Mrs. Makinde expressed delight at being invited to inaugurate the project, describing it as a commendable initiative that will benefit residents of the area.

She praised Hon. Sanda for renovating the marriage registry, noting that beyond providing a befitting environment for marriage ceremonies, the facility would also serve as a source of revenue generation for the local government.

According to her, the project is worthy of emulation by other local government chairmen across the state.

“This is my second time commissioning a marriage registry in Oyo State, and I am honored to be part of this laudable initiative,” she said.

She emphasized that marriage remains a critical pillar of every community, as it forms the foundation for stable and healthy families.

“Providing a conducive and dignified environment for the solemnization of marriages reflects the value we place on the institution of marriage. It gives couples a sense of pride, honor, and confidence as they begin one of the most significant journeys of their lives,” she said.

In addition to the commissioning, the First Lady also flagged off a one-year prepaid health insurance scheme for elderly residents of Egbeda Local Government under the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme.

She commended Hon. Sanda for prioritizing the welfare of senior citizens through the initiative, noting that the scheme would guarantee access to quality healthcare for the elderly.

According to her, the health insurance plan will protect elderly beneficiaries from high medical bills, especially those suffering from chronic conditions requiring continuous care.

She explained that the scheme would also encourage routine medical checkups and early detection of illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis.

Mrs. Makinde urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the health insurance cards provided to them.

“The cards are meant for your benefit. They are of no value if they are kept away or hidden under pillows. Please safeguard them and use them to protect your health and well-being,” she advised.

She further noted that the scheme ensures affordable healthcare for the elderly since the cost of treatment has already been prepaid.

Mrs. Makinde further commended the Egbeda council chairman for both the renovation of the marriage registry and the introduction of the health insurance scheme, while expressing hope that the coming year would bring even greater achievements for the people of the local government.

Earlier in his remarks, The Chairman Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Sanda said the event was a three-in-one program, including the commissioning of a pedestrian bridge and the launch of the health insurance scheme.

The Chairman, likened the achievements to Governor Makinde’s commitment to grassroots development, women empowerment, and social welfare.

In her goodwill message, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, highlighted the benefits of health insurance scheme especially to elders, while Elder Wole Oyelese, praised Hon. Sanda’s strides in the local government.

He assured PDP members in Oyo State that with Governor Seyi Makinde, there is no cause for alarm.
