The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed a suspected kidnapping incident involving a 12-year-old female student in the Challenge area of Ibadan.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on behalf of the Command, the incident was reported to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 12, 2026.

According to the statement, preliminary information indicates that the student, who attends a private secondary school in the area, was allegedly abducted by unknown armed men at about 7:20 a.m.

The incident reportedly took place at a junction leading to the school premises as the victim was alighting from a vehicle that had conveyed her to school.

The Police disclosed that the incident was promptly reported, and detectives were immediately deployed to the scene for preliminary assessment and fact-finding.

An Eyewitnesses were identified and questioned, with their accounts said to be providing useful leads for the ongoing investigation.

The Command also confirmed that the parents of the victim have been contacted and are working closely with the Police as efforts continue to secure the safe rescue of the child.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive and intelligence-driven investigation into the incident, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm and to provide any useful information that could aid the investigation, assuring that all information received will be treated with strict confidentiality, added that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
