Oyo Police Broker Peace Between Ito, Sando Aare Communities Over Amosiko Land

…As Parties agree to maintain status quo as police-led mediation halts escalating Ofiki land dispute

The Oyo State Police Command has successfully mediated a peace accord between the Ito and Sando Aare community quarters of Ofiki land following a long-standing dispute over a parcel of land known as Amosiko.

The peace meeting was convened at the Oyo State Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, and was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Officials from the State Intelligence Department, Legal, Operations, and other relevant police units were also present.

The dispute centres on Amosiko land, which is traditionally divided into three sections,Ito, Agere, and Sando, each under recognised traditional authority.

The land had reportedly been peacefully managed for several decades during the reign of the late Oloto.

However, tensions escalated after his death in 2025, leading to disagreements over mosque management, farming activities, and land allocation.

Efforts at early mediation were said to have stalled after one of the parties approached the court.

At the meeting, representatives of the two communities, alongside traditional rulers and community leaders, were directed to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case by the court.

Both parties agreed not to encroach on the disputed land and undertook not to engage in leasing, sale, mining, construction, or any other activity on the land without proper approval from the relevant local or state authorities.

All participants signed a letter of undertaking committing themselves to the terms of the agreement.

The police described the intervention as part of their proactive and intelligence-led policing strategy aimed at preventing communal disputes from escalating into violence.

The Command noted that the mediation helped safeguard lives, property, and peace within the affected communities.

The Oyo State Police Command also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde for their roles in promoting dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution across the state.

Among those in attendance were the Aare of Ofiki Land, Oba Adeoye Gbenga; Oba Oloju, Jacob Adefabi; and several community elders and leaders, including Chief Ogundiran Jimoh, Prince Olaoye Isa, Prince Marolasa Kehinde, Prince Eyinade Arinoye, Prince Michael Olawore, Omooba Isaiah Oyebisi, Omooba Kehinde Alabi, and Alhaji Yisau Adeyemo.
