Two Ex-Soldiers Arrested for Armed Robbery in Oyo
…As Police recover three cars, motorcycle; suspects confess, investigations ongoing.
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered several stolen vehicles during an intelligence-led operation within the Ibadan metropolis.
Thr statement was released and signed by the Public Relations Officer of Oyo State Police Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka and sent to Journalist, while narating the incident, he said the suspects, identified as David Okhaie (48) of the Ojoo area of Ibadan and Balogun Afolabi (43) of the Wakajaiye area, were arrested by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit following credible intelligence and an intensive manhunt.
Police said both men are dismissed corporals of the Nigerian Army.
Okhaie allegedly paraded himself as an Army Captain, while investigations revealed that the suspects specialised in robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their vehicles at gunpoint.
During a search conducted at the time of arrest, operatives recovered the following items: One black Toyota Camry with registration number KRD 253 KC
One metallic Toyota Corolla with registration number JTA 938 AA
One silver Lexus RX 350 (unregistered)
One black Super Cargo motorcycle with registration number YRE 487 VD.
The Command has invited members of the public who may have lost vehicles to armed robbery or theft, and whose vehicle descriptions match the recovered exhibits, to visit the Oyo State Police Command with valid proof of ownership and means of identification for verification and possible recovery.
According to the police, the suspects have confessed to the crimes and are currently providing useful information to assist ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending other members of the robbery syndicate and recovering additional stolen property.
Commending the success of the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, praised the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership and emphasis on intelligence-driven policing.
He also lauded officers of the Command Monitoring Unit for their professionalism and gallantry.
The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
