The Wife of the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, has charged young girls to embrace confidence, innovation, and leadership as they prepare to take their rightful place in shaping the future of Nigeria.

Mrs. Makinde made the call in Ibadan during an event held to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child celebration, theme: “The Girl I AM; The Change I Lead- Girls On The Frontlines Of Crisis,” Organized the office Oyo State First Lady Mrs Tamunumini Makinde, which brought together students, teachers, education stakeholders, and government officials.

Addressing the gathering, the First Lady encouraged girls to believe in their potential and let their light shine brightly in every area of life.

She urged them to rise above fear, dream big, and remain resilient in the pursuit of excellence.

Mrs Makinde reaffirmed her commitment to supporting programs and initiatives that empower girls across Oyo State, stressing that education and mentorship are vital tools for building a stronger, more inclusive society.

She also called on teachers and principals to go beyond classroom instruction by nurturing the confidence and leadership potential of every girl under their care.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for girls to thrive,lead, and inspire change across all spheres of life.

He charged girls child in the state to speak up and report any cases of molestation or abuse to the Local Inspector of Education or the Inspector General of Education for immediate action.

The Commissioner issued a stern warning to perpetrators of abuse and molestation against girls in the state, urging them to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

The event highlighted the state government’s continued commitment to promoting the rights, education, and empowerment of girls, in line with the theme of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child.
