SAfER: Oyo Launches 3rd Phase of Agricultural Input Distribution to Support Pig Farmers
In a bid to alleviate the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy, Oyo State government has flagged off third phase of the distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers in the state with the distribution of two bags of 50kg feeds and two bottles of disinfectant to 1,000 pig farmers.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye flagged off the phase three at Ogo-Oluwa local government Secretariat, Ajaawa, Ogbomoso.
Barr. Olaleye said that the
phase will also witness the free vaccination of atleast 120,000 cattle with anthrax vaccine and CBPP Vaccine, while another 250,000 cattle, goat and sheep will also be vaccinated by the state government.
He added that 1,000 sheep and goat farmers across the state will equally receive two bags of 50kg wheat offal each.
Barr. Olaleye further noted that the initiative, apart from relieving farmers of the present economic hardship occasioned by fuel subsidy removal, will also improve feed quality and quantity for livestock production so as to grow the economy.
Earlier in her remarks, The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Christiana Abioye urged the beneficiaries to complement the efforts of the government to make good use of the items distributed to have a positive effect in the prices of goods
In his address the chairman, Piggery Farmers Association, Mr Tope Alamu expressed gratitude to the state government initiative and highlighted the lack of available farmland as a major challenge for pig farmers in the zone while requesting government assistance in allocating land for rearing their Swine.
One of the beneficiaries, A Swine farmer, who spoke to Journalist, Mrs Adebayo Mary expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde describing the gesture as timely and commendable.
She said that the inputs will help her and other Swine farmers in the zone reduce costs of production and improve on their capacity while providing healthy feeds for their Swine.
