Balogun Ibadanland Warns Traditional Leaders Against Land Grabbing, Other Crimes in Ibadan

…As New Olubadan vows to protect land rights, promote leasing, and boost youth employment through investment

The Balogun Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, has issued a strong warning to traditional leaders and residents of Ibadanland, urging them to remain law-abiding and security-conscious, as the city ushers in a new era under the incoming Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Oba Ajibola made this call while leading a delegation of traditional leaders to pay homage to Oba Ladoja at his residence in Bodija.

He emphasized that stiffer penalties would henceforth be imposed on anyone, especially traditional authorities, found guilty of criminal acts such as land grabbing.

“Any Mogaji, Baale, or traditional leader involved in activities that tarnish the image of Ibadanland will face severe sanctions, including deposition and legal prosecution,” Oba Ajibola declared.

He expressed confidence in Oba Ladoja’s leadership, stating that his wealth of experience and statesmanship would drive meaningful development across the city.

Also speaking at the event, the Ashipa Designate, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, urged the Olubadan Designate to leverage his influence to create employment opportunities for the youth and attract investors to Ibadanland.

In his response, Oba Rashidi Ladoja assured indigenes of their right to land ownership, advising them to prioritize leasing rather than outright sales of land in order to preserve generational assets.

He also revealed that a committee is currently investigating the closure of several industries in the city to find solutions and revive economic activities.

“We are committed to ensuring sustainable development while safeguarding the heritage and resources of our people,” Oba Ladoja stated.

The homage visit was attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council, Mogajis, Baales, and other traditional rulers. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the immediate past Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed on in July.
