Nigerian Army Conducts Shooting Drill in Odogbo Cantonment Urges Public Not to Panic

The Nigerian Army has advised the public, particularly residents and communities surrounding the Headquarters 2Division Odogbo cantonment not to panic upon hearing the sound of gunfire during the military training exercise.

This was released in a press statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Polycarp Okoye to announce the commencement of a Range Classification Exercise at the Major General OF Azinta Shooting Range, located within the Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment in Ibadan.

The exercise which began today, scheduled to run through Thursday, July 11.

The event is part of the mandatory training curriculum for soldiers undergoing the Basic Battle Course, currently in progress at the training school.

According to the statement the exercise is designed to reinforce weapon handling skills, improve combat readiness, and assess the proficiency of trainees in preparation for operational deployment.

The statement from the military authorities further stated that the training aims to enhance the soldiers’ effectiveness in military operations by ensuring their skills remain sharp and up to the standard.

It also serves as a performance benchmark to gauge the level of training and preparedness of participation troops.

The statement warned farmers and hunting activities within the Barracks should be suspended around the Range area for the duration of the exercise, in the interest of public safety.
