AZEEM SALAKO IS GUEST SPEAKER FOR YEWA/AWORI STUDENT’S ANNUAL DAY

An eminent political thinker and popular TV political analyst, Comrade Azeem Oladimeji Salako will be guest speaker at this year’s annual day of the National Association of Yewa/Awori Students, FCE Abeokuta chapter.

The event scheduled to hold at the famous COEASU Hall, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta on 1st December 2021 will be enjoying the participation of dignitaries and high profile traditional, political, economic, community and students leaders across Ogun West senatorial district in particular and Ogun state in general.

According to the statement made available to the press, the president of the association, Comr. (Sen) Fredrick Ogunjobi noted that the choice of this year’s theme; “Political Leadership, Ogun West, and the Big Challenge” is informed by the circumstance of the Yewa/Awori people and their comparative disadvantage in the scheme of things amongst other senatorial districts in Ogun state, and as the 2023 election draw nearer it is important that we commence with the appropriate sensitization and tactical advocacy to emancipate ourselves from these challenges.

We also understand that we cannot achieve the above unless we understand the exact nature of our problem in order to bring forth a possible cum practicable solution, thus the best place to start this noble campaign is the citadel of learning comprising of the youths, who, as Azeem Salako put it in one of his articles, constitutes the largest percentage of the culprits and victims of maladministration. Here Mr. Fredrick said; “we have closely followed the activities of a young man, his academic expertise, wide and quality appearances on national media, political engagements on critical issues, public intellectual and advocacy, and his critical, knowledgeable, and courageous writings on the challenges that confronts our Yewa/Awori identity, and is no other person than Mr. Azeem Oladimeji Salako, and we unanimously agree that there is no better person to speak to this topic and at this crucial time than the young scholar”.

It will interest you to know that our guest speaker for this year event, Azeem O. Salako bagged his first degree, Masters degree, and currently a Doctoral student, all in political science, at Nigeria’s premier university, the University of Ibadan. His area of research, academic, and intellectual engagement is; Citizenship and the Public sphere in Africa, which put him at the top choice, and aptly fits in with the importance of this year’s event and the quality expected from it, Mr. Fredrick concluded.

The event will be open to all and sundry. It starts by 10am, 1st Dec 2021 at the COEASU hall, Federal College of Education Abeokuta alongside many side attractions, awards presentations, and guaranteed security.
