Be Professional, Intimate Yourselves With Modern Skills – Estab Commissioner Urges Oyo Executive, Clerical Officers

As part of its mandate to improve the efficiency and competencies among workers of the Oyo State government, the Ministry of Establishments and Training, has organised a one-day interactive session on skills development and effectiveness for Executive and clerical officers in the civil service of the state.

Speaking at the event held at Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre, Secretariat, on Wednesday, the Commissioner of the Ministry, Alhaji Siju Lawal, noted that the services of Executive and clerical officers are germane to the growth of public service.

Lawal noted that the sensitization workshop organised was an evidence that the present administration places high premium on human capacity development, adding that the programme was aimed at intimating all participants on the existing public service rules and regulations with a view to enhancing their skills and competencies in keeping and updating records.

In His words: “I heartily welcome you all to this interactive session organised for Executive and Clerical Officers in the State Public/Civil Service. I appreciate the instructiveness of the objective of the workshop which is to develop the skills and enhance effectiveness of all of you here present.”

While explaining that the duties of the participants cannot be undermined in the state service because of their strategic position of serving as the subordinates to the Administrative Officers, He urged them to be awake to their responsibilities and apply systematic change to the existing difficult challenges.

He said: “Your role is very important because you serve as the engine room of the state civil service. Your role is also concomitant to the intended goal of the service. So, you are expected to work closely with those in the officer’s cadre with a view to enhancing the professionalism of the civil service, as well as enhance its effectiveness.

“Therefore, let me say that it is high time, you lived up to expectations and be seen as key to the success of this administration. You are expected to horn your skills so as to be seen as dependable lieutenants.

“Don’t rely on analogue handling of documents alone because in line with the goal of the governor of the state, you will all migrate to digitalisation mode.

“All we are saying is they need to continue to learn the necessary skills to enhance their performance on the job. As Executive officers, they must not rest on their oars hence they must continue to learn new technologies in minute writing computer and others. These skills are essential for the growth of the state civil service.”

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Babatunde Adeyanju, urged the participants to do what is expected of them, and enjoined them to apply the new skill they have learnt at the seminar to their day-to-day activities.

54 participants were, however, drawn from various ministries and agencies for the training.
