Address Hike in prices of Food, Other Items Quickly, Muslim Lawyers Charge Govt

…Say it’s difficult to control prices

The Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria [MULAN], yesterday, charged the government to move quickly to address sky-rocking prices of food and other items.

The Muslim lawyers made the call while speaking during a press conference heralding their 15th Annual General Conference slated to begin today. It is a three-day event which holds at the Central Mosque, University of Ibadan.

Addressing journalists at the University of Ibadan, the National President of MULAN, Prof. Kazeem Olaniyan, disclosed that the conference has the theme: ‘National Development: The New Dynamics and Nuances’.

Olaniyan, who is the Dean of Law at a private university, said a team of experts had been selected to proffer solutions to the nation’s challenges.

He lamented the increase in prices of items, saying it affected everybody.

The law professor said it would be difficult for the government to control prices.

He said: ‘’If you are not a producer, you cannot control prices. We must seek to produce food on our own. The government is tackling the food challenge but it must move to address food insecurity quickly’’.

The law don said MULAN would be gathering a team of experts to proffer solutions out of various crises such as food inflation, fuel crisis and others, adding that six professors, three Senior Advocates of Nigeria and other experts would be speaking at the programme. They include a professor of Islamic Banking , Prof. Yusuf Ali, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, among others.

‘’A careful selection of a team of experts have been assembled to do justice to this year’s theme through their various presentations’’, he said.

The scholar also warned against the weaponisation of religion as a tool of disharmony.

In his remark, The Chairman Conference Planning Committee, Musibau Adetumbi SAN, called on Nigerians to come together and develop the country for a well developed society.

He further said that government have the duty to encourage Agriculture and the citizens to ensure food security in the country.

While discussing on the take home of the program, he said that they are using the program to send message to every Nigerians that the duties and obligation to develop the country lies on everyone.
