Makinde’s Head of protocol Bags Institute Corporate Administration Fellowship

The Institute of Corporate Administration (ICAD), an organization established in 1993, has conferred its Honourary Fellowship Award on the Director General of Protocol to Oyo state Governor,Otunba Samuel Badejo, at the institute’s quarterly conference held on Saturday in Ibadan.

Dr. Eyitayo, a Fellow of ICAD, who conferred the honours on behalf of the Governing Council of ICAD said that Otunba Badejo and other Fellowship nominees were selected based on the institute’s criteria for honouring professionals who have distinguished themselves in public service.

According to ICAD’s criteria for Honorary Awards, “Nominees for honorary awards are individuals and organizations who, in the opinion of the Administration committee, have distinguished themselves theoretically or experiential in diverse professional or occupational fields”.

Badejo as a focused and diligent Senior Staff of University of Ibadan, rose to
become The Principal Protocol Officer in the office of The Vice-Chancellor
from 2012 to 2019.


He was appointed by His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Oyo State,
Engineer Seyi Makinde as Director General (Protocol) to
His Excellency on the 11th September 2019, an office he still holds until date.

His participatory roles in Community Development projects and Investment
in Human Capacity building activities attracted the kind attention of His
Royal Highness, Oba Aderibigbe Okunade Omirin, Okunade I, Looja of Kajola Ijesa who conferred on him a Chieftaincy title of Otunba of Kajola Ijesa on
21st May, 2016.
During performing his duties, Otunba Badejo has participated and
contributed to the successes of several Professional Workshops, Seminars, Symposia, Universities Convocation Ceremonies and other Ground-breaking
events across African States, Asia countries, United Kingdom and United
States of America.

He is a member of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and also a
member of Protocol and Diplomacy International (PDI).

He has received several awards of honour, in recognition of his efficiency and
professionalism at various points and times.

While speaking at the event, which took place at the University of Ibadan’s Hotel,Otunba Badejo, appreciated the institute for honouring him and dedicated the award to his principal, governor Seyi Makinde,who counted him worthy to be part of his administration.

He explained that he sees the conferment of a fellowship by the Institute of Corporate Administration as a call to do more for the society.

He said : I give glory to God foremost and also want to thank His Excellency, the executive governor of Oyo state Engineer Seyi makinde FNSC, DSC, GSSRS, who has shorted me out from university of Ibadan brought me to a limelight in his office as his Director General Protocol.

“I see this conferment of fellowship by the Institute of Corporate Administration as a call to do more, to strive towards achieving excellence even in the midst of uncertainties like we have in the country today.

“To achieve excellence is not easy but, like the lecturer said, through innovative approaches we should be able to move fast and passed beyond every blockage to achieve excellence in what we do.

I also thank every member of the political appointees who have cooperated with us to wade through even the turbulent time in achieving the little we have been able to achieve.

“People are watching us. The lesson I want people to take away from here, is that people are taking notice of how we conduct ourselves and how we carry ourselves along with the responsibilities given to us.

“People are watching us, so we should try every time to put in our best so that we will all and move toward achieving excellence in whatever we are given to do.

In her lecture titled Driving Operational Excellence through Strategic Innovations in Uncertain Times, Princess Okwuchi Ihenacho
Consultant with the Institute of Corporate Administration, said ” operational Excellence when properly understood and applied is a powerful strategy that can catapult organization to an unimaginable height.

She further said, “it is basically about executing business strategy more effectively and consistently than competitors.

She noted that, “operational excellence is not a stop destination, but a relentless drive in search of better ways of getting things done.

She said, “This involves how to hit every one without wasting time, it may involve rearranging the order m, introducing new players, or cutting certain paths out altogether. You may have to cut out dead weights, find new short cuts, it is a laser-like focus on what is essential to your organization’s success and the best method for achieving your goal.

“Excellence can only be achieve when the entire organization is well orchestrated and organized around a “customer-first” philosophy. The idea behind it is that employees focus on maintaining the detailed execution of the flow while management focuses on how customer value creation plays a critical strategic roles in growing and expanding the business.

Princess however listed ten core principles of operational excellence as respect for every individual, practice humility, strive toward perfection, think scientifically, focus on the process, assure quality at the source, improve flow and pull, think systemically, create value for customer, and understand of purpose.

She also maintained that the idea behind operational excellence is to apply right tools and processes to create a work culture that performs day in day out, a work culture that empowers and motivates each employee to take responsibility for the flow of the operations. This kind of changes allow for implementing key improvements, producing valuable products and providing high-quality services, resulting in long term sustainable growth.
