The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has commenced full-scale operations at its new permanent headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan, with the imposition of fines on environmental offenders.

The development was marked by an Environmental Protection Tribunal sitting on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, where three defendants were arraigned for improper refuse disposal and other environmental infractions.

During the proceedings presided over by Mr Kunle Abimbola, a lawyer, the first defendant pleaded guilty to one count but denied two others, while the second pleaded guilty to all counts.

The third defendant also pleaded guilty to one count and denied the remaining two.

The tribunal prescribed penalties of 30-thousand naira for Count One, 20-thousand naira for Count Two and 10-thousand naira for Count Three, in line with existing environmental laws.

Speaking after the sitting, OYRLEA Chairperson, retired Justice Aderonke Aderemi, charged officers and staff to demonstrate renewed commitment, discipline and professionalism in enforcing environmental and public order laws across the state.

She said the new headquarters and resources provided by the state government should translate into improved service delivery, adding that the authority would expand its operations beyond Ibadan to all local government areas of the state.

The authority later held a dedicatory prayer session at its new headquarters, where the General Overseer of Riverside Victory International Christian Ministry, Reverend Joseph Afolabi, urged staff to work in unity and regard their duties as a call to serve humanity.

He also prayed for the protection of officers, the progress of OYRLEA and the peace and development of Oyo State.
