Oyo League of Veteran Journalists Disowns Purported Association, Lecture

…As League warns public against being misled over planned October 26 lecture in Ibadan

The League of Veteran Journalists, Oyo State, has disowned a purported association, the Veteran Journalists’ Association of Nigeria, allegedly organising a lecture scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2026, at the Millennium Hall, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The Chairman of the League, Banji Ogundele, stated this in a press release, insisting that the League of Veteran Journalists, established in 1988, is the only recognised body of veteran journalists in Oyo State.

Ogundele said the clarification was necessary to prevent members of the public from being misled by individuals allegedly pursuing personal interests under the guise of veteran journalism.

He explained that membership of the League comprises journalists and media practitioners who have spent at least 25 years in the profession.

Its members include prominent journalists such as Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Felix Adenaike, Bamiji Ojo, Layi Agbaje, Tunde Akingbade, Jare Ajayi and Kola Animasaun, among others.

The chairman added that the League is committed to promoting journalism, protecting press freedom, upholding professional ethics, encouraging public awareness through discourse and analysis, and safeguarding the welfare and interests of its members.
