Two-Term Oyo Assembly Member, Peter Oyetunji, Resigns From APM

…As he cites alleged neglect, failed promises, victimisation and lack of internal democracy

A two-term member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Oyetunji, has resigned his membership of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, citing alleged neglect of his constituency and failure of the party and government to fulfil promises made to its members.

Oyetunji, who represented the Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere State Constituency, announced his resignation in a letter dated October 6 and addressed to the APM State Chairman.

He asked the party to remove his name from its membership register at the state, local government and ward levels.

The former lawmaker, who is also a town planner, said his decision was largely influenced by what he described as the failure of the state government to deliver meaningful development to Surulere Local Government despite the loyalty and support of its people.

He alleged that the area had suffered what he called “complete neglect” and the absence of meaningful people-oriented development projects from the state government in the last seven and a half years.

Oyetunji also accused the party leadership of promoting what he described as arrogance, deceit and disregard for internal democracy, transparency and the welfare of members.

He further alleged that loyal and outspoken party members who demanded accountability and progress had been subjected to deliberate gang-up and victimisation.

The former Oyo Assembly member said he could no longer remain in the party “in good conscience,” describing his continued efforts within the party as fruitless.
