NYSC Kidnap: 20 Parents Storm Olubadan’s Residence, Seek Help

…As Oba Ladoja assures families of government efforts to secure their release

Parents of 20 graduates abducted while travelling from Ibadan to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Imo State have appealed to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to intervene and secure the release of their children.

The parents, who visited the Olubadan at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, appealed to the monarch to deploy his influence and personal contacts towards ensuring the safe release of the abducted prospective corps members.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Alhaja Halima Akande and Mr Oyebola Michael Akande, said the victims had been in the custody of their abductors for about two days, describing their ordeal as distressing and difficult to bear.

Receiving the parents at about 1:36 p.m., Oba Ladoja assured them that efforts were ongoing to resolve the situation, stressing that the government was deeply concerned about the incident.

The monarch, who received the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, and the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola Adeyeri, alongside the parents, said, “Fortunately, the Oyo CP is here. He would brief you.”

The Commissioner of Police subsequently assured the parents and members of the public that the government was on top of the situation and that efforts were being made to secure the safe release of the abducted NYSC members.

The meeting was held amid growing concerns over the safety of the prospective corps members and their families.
