YASA Foundation Celebrates Nigeria at 66, Reaffirms Commitment to Persons with Disabilities, Vulnerable Nigerians

As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Founder of Yeye Afolashade Shona-Aluko, YASA Foundation, Yeye Afolashade Shona-Aluko, has called for greater inclusion, dignity and opportunities for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable Nigerians.

Yeye Shona-Aluko made the call in a Press Release she issued in Lagos to specially celebrate the Independence Day with persons with disabilities, vulnerable children, youth, women and other underserved members of society, stressing that the progress of Nigeria must be measured by how well the nation protects and empowers its most vulnerable citizens.

She said Independence Day should go beyond ceremonies and celebrations, describing it as an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s journey, appreciate its resilience and renew the collective commitment to building a society where every citizen has a meaningful place.

According to her, persons with disabilities should not be viewed through the lens of limitation, but as Nigerians with talents, aspirations and valuable contributions to make towards national development.

Yeye Shona-Aluko, who is also the Yeye Bobajiro Oodua, noted that YASA Foundation, under her leadership, remains committed to promoting inclusion, access to opportunities, dignity and social protection for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups by positively touching lives and raising hope of the people.

The Founder, YASA Foundation urged governments, Non-Governmental Organisations, Philanthropists, community leaders and individuals to strengthen partnerships that would provide vulnerable Nigerians with access to education, healthcare, skills acquisition, employment opportunities and other forms of support needed to live dignified lives.

She also called on Nigerians to embrace compassion and unity, saying the strength of the country lies in its ability to accommodate its diversity and ensure that no one is left behind.

As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, Yeye Shona-Aluko expressed optimism that with collective responsibility, inclusive policies and genuine commitment to the welfare of citizens, the country can build a future where every Nigerian, irrespective of disability or social status, has the opportunity to thrive.
