…Agboola leads five-member panel as union seeks credible platform for candidates to engage the electorate

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has constituted a five-member committee to organise a public debate for candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative is aimed at providing candidates with a platform to present their programmes, policies and vision to the electorate, while allowing voters to make informed choices.

The committee is chaired by Mr Olayinka Agboola, with Mr Oluseye Ojo as Secretary. Other members are Mrs Oyebukola Oriowo, Mrs Omolola Alamu and Mr Olusoji Ajibola.

In a statement signed by the NUJ Oyo State Council Chairman, Mr Akeem Abas, and Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the council charged the committee to work with relevant stakeholders and develop a credible framework for the successful organisation of the debate.

The council said details of the date, venue, format, participating candidates and other arrangements would be announced as preparations progress.

It also called on political parties, candidates, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support the initiative, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen democratic governance and promote issue-based political engagement in the state.

According to the NUJ, the debate would provide an opportunity for candidates to be assessed side by side on their ideas, programmes, competence and capacity, thereby giving voters useful information ahead of the 2027 elections.
