Rising Hardship: Ewenla Rejects Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid
…As PDP Chieftain faults fuel Subsidy removal, electricity tarrifs, urges Nigerians to decide at Polls
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Southwest Zonal Ex-Officio, Dr. Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has opposed the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that Nigerians cannot afford another four years of the present administration.
Ewenla, in a statement, said the rising cost of living, fuel prices, transportation, food, electricity and other essential services had imposed severe hardship on Nigerians.
He questioned the justification for returning the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress, APC, administration to power, saying citizens should demand accountability for the policies and promises of the government before deciding on the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, the removal of fuel subsidy may have been presented as an economic necessity, but the Federal Government must demonstrate how the savings from the policy are being used to provide tangible relief for ordinary Nigerians.
Ewenla also expressed concern over the state of electricity supply in the country, arguing that Nigerians should not be required to pay higher electricity tariffs while many communities continue to experience irregular power supply.
The PDP chieftain further criticised members and supporters of the party’s Wike-aligned faction who openly support President Tinubu and the APC, questioning what he described as their political consistency and commitment to the interests of ordinary Nigerians.
He maintained that opposition politics should be based on accountability, principles and public interest rather than personal ambition, political appointments or proximity to power.
Ewenla urged Nigerians to critically assess the records, policies, promises and credibility of all political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He called on eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the electoral process, saying Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians and not to any individual, political party or group.
Ewenla declared that he does not support the return of President Tinubu and the APC to Aso Rock in 2027, insisting that the country needs a new direction and a government that prioritises the welfare of its citizens.
He said the 2027 election provides Nigerians with an opportunity to make their voices heard through the ballot box, urging citizens to reject what he described as political sycophancy and blind party loyalty.
The PDP Southwest Ex-Officio concluded that Nigerians deserve better governance, accountability and relief from the economic hardship confronting the country.
