Oyo Police Stops Kwara Officers’ Arrest of Tani Olohun in Ibadan

…As Command says Officers had Ilorin Court Warrant, orders them back to Kwara

The Oyo State Police Command has clarified a viral video involving officers of the Kwara State Police Command who came to Ibadan to effect the arrest of one Mr. Tani Olohun.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command said the Kwara officers were in Ibadan on official duty and were acting on a warrant of arrest issued by the Upper Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, Ilorin.

According to the statement, the warrant was issued in connection with allegations bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, following the alleged failure of Tani Olohun to comply with the conditions of bail earlier granted to him.

The Command, however, said that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the officers to return to their base and advised the complainant to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, being the alleged place where the offence was committed.

It explained that the directive was in line with due process and the principles of territorial jurisdiction.

The Oyo Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, while warning against actions capable of disturbing public peace or escalating the situation.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that complaints are handled professionally and in accordance with extant laws.
