Makinde Meets APM South-West Guber Candidates Ahead of 2027

…As he holds strategic talks with the party’s governorship candidates on grassroots mobilisation and electoral preparedness

Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, has held a strategic meeting with the party’s governorship candidates in the South-West ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting brought together the party’s candidates from key South-West states, including Oyo State governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Lagos State candidate, Prince Laja Adeoye.

Adekanmbi was adopted as the APM’s consensus governorship candidate for Oyo State at the party’s governorship and legislative primary held in Ibadan in May, while Adeoye emerged as the party’s consensus candidate for Lagos State during its governorship primary in Yaba.

The meeting focused on strengthening the party’s structures, coordinating grassroots mobilisation and improving its electoral preparedness across the South-West.

Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate at the party’s presidential primary in Ibadan in May 2026. In his acceptance speech, he outlined an agenda centred on restoring hope, rebuilding public confidence and pursuing reforms aimed at improving the Nigerian economy.

The latest engagement is part of efforts by the APM to consolidate its political structures ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states.

The party is also seeking to strengthen coordination among its candidates and supporters as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the elections.

Makinde’s emergence on the APM platform followed his declaration of interest in the 2027 presidential election in May 2026. His political realignment has formed part of wider opposition manoeuvring ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, APM candidates have continued to outline their respective political programmes. In Lagos, Adeoye has presented his ambition as a bid to provide an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress, while Adekanmbi has positioned his Oyo campaign around continuity with the development agenda of the current administration.

The meeting comes as political parties and candidates begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the APM working to expand its presence and build stronger structures across the country.
