Oyo INEC Opens Preliminary Voters Register for Public Verification

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State will commence the display of the Preliminary Register of Voters for claims and objections across its 33 Local Government Area offices as part of preparations for the 2027 General Election.
This was according to a statement issued by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof. Rahman Adeniran Tella, the exercise will run from Tuesday, August 4, to Monday, August 10,
2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily.
Prof. Tella said the exercise is in line with the commission’s timetable and schedule of activities and is aimed at giving registered voters the opportunity to verify that their names are correctly captured in the voters register.
He explained that voters would also be able to confirm the accuracy of their personal and biometric details and request corrections where necessary.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner added that applications for transfer of voter registration, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, and updates to personal information would also be attended to during the exercise.
He noted that members of the public could also raise objections to the inclusion of deceased persons, underage registrants or non-Nigerians on the register.
Prof. Tella urged all eligible voters in the state to take advantage of the exercise to ensure that the voters register is accurate and credible ahead of the next general election.
He further advised that all claims and objections must be submitted within the stipulated period, stressing that affected persons would be required to appear physically at their designated INEC Local Government Area offices across Oyo State.
