…Accuses FG of politicising security while terrorists wreak havoc

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has blamed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the worsening insecurity across the country, following the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Adebayo spoke during a courtesy and condolence visit to Seyi Makinde in Ibadan, where he sympathised with the government and people of Oyo State over the recent security incident.

He was accompanied by the National Chairman of the SDP, Sadiq Gombe, alongside other party members.

According to Adebayo, the visit was aimed at showing solidarity with the people of the state and condemning what he described as the failure of the Federal Government to protect lives and property.

“The reason why we came here is to give solidarity to the people of Oyo State and the government of Oyo State, and to sympathise with the communities,” he said.

The SDP chieftain said the insecurity currently being experienced in Oyo State reflects a wider national crisis affecting many parts of the country.

He criticised the Tinubu administration, alleging that the Federal Government had failed in its constitutional responsibility as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

Adebayo argued that despite efforts by the Oyo State Government and local security outfits such as Amotekun, insecurity had continued to escalate due to inadequate federal leadership and poor deployment of national security resources.

He also accused the Federal Government of politicising security operations instead of focusing on combating terrorism and banditry.

According to him, Nigerian armed forces possess the capacity to tackle insecurity effectively if adequately supported with equipment, communication infrastructure and proper leadership.

The former presidential candidate further urged the Federal Government to prioritise national security over politics, warning that the continued deterioration in security poses a serious threat to the country’s survival.

He maintained that the 2027 general election should be viewed as a referendum on national survival rather than political ambition.

Adebayo expressed confidence that insecurity and terrorism could be decisively tackled with committed leadership and proper coordination of the nation’s security architecture.
